The Reception Dress

Here ye, here ye….My sequined beauty is on hiatus :(.  I was all set to burn the midnight oil on the daunting task of making a sequin dress this past weekend and then I realized that I have a wedding reception to go to and nothing to wear!

I made a mad dash to my computer and I started searching through my database of fabrics like a crazy person when there it was, this beautiful piece of unused of ikat fabric.  Being super excited, I jumped for joy and did some celebratory kicks and twirls.  Sadly, dizziness started to set in ( I thought I had at least 2 more minutes of good twirls and kicks in me). So, back to the drawing board I went, literally.  I did a rough sketch of what I wanted as seen below and started the pattern making process:

Now, I was going to complain about how annoying it is to make a pattern for my body but I’m guessing most of you don’t know what my body looks like so this is my complaint, I’m a size 2 but for some odd reason I have a 32FF bra size, HUH.  So making tailored tops are very time consuming to say the least.  But I finished sans figuring out the neckline I wanted and this is what I got:

Dress Prototype with some Dora art from my niece Grace.

Let’s try this baby on!

Fitting

Fit is looking pretty good so now it’s time to work with the real thing.  I will leave you with a better view of the fabric because Photoshop just doesn’t do it justice.

What a crazy beauty!

Stay tuned for the big Reception Dress reveal!

  1. I’m waiting on the edge of my seat to see the finished product Tia Tia Bobia! That’s so awesome that you can whip something together like this though. My grandma and my mom can and used to do the same thing and I have always been so envious! Also, I love the fabric for this dress! Can’t wait to see it all together!
